Travelogue - Italy |

I visited Italy in Spring, 1996 for the first time. I
particularly liked the Tuscany region and Assisi was very
delightful. I especially liked it because of the textures
and colors of the stonework in the building materials.
Shortly after I left, the town was hit with a devastating
earthquake and it saddened me to think that some of what
I saw may have been lost.

Italy has typically narrow streets and beautiful historic architecture. This is actually not a particular scene but rather one I would imagine after a midday mass in a Tuscany village. The red tiled-roofs and use of natural stone and brick with contrasting greens of the Italian Cypress and other plant materials is an artist's dream. Midday
